RARE SKIES

Words and Music by: Laurie Larson

Drums: Lon Rozelle

Vocals, bass, keys, guitar by: Laurie Larson

Out past the realm of astronomy, far beyond the

reach of the ministry.  We'll meet under those rare skies

under those rare skies, that I've never seen before,

and I stand mystified.

Rare skies, chasing an infinite horizon.

Our journey has just begun, under those rare skies

and I stand mystified, rare skies

that I've never seen before

and I stand mystified. Under your rare skies

and I stand mystified

ARRIVAL

Words and Music by: Laurie Larson

Lead Guitar: Johnny Echols

Vocals, bass, drums by: Laurie Larson

Sing my song, endless stars, timeless tunes,

a long travelled arc. Many suns, many moons left

their mark, Awaiting your arrival, your arrival.

Tangled web, woven ropes, a twisted path

Many thoughts, many hopes, unscheduled aftermath.

Awaiting your arrival, your arrival.

Where have you been?

Changed plans, updated calendar, a new day ahead,

what's transpired so far, remembering what you said.

Awaiting your arrival, your arrival.

Awaiting your arrival.

RING NEBULA

Words and Music by: Laurie Larson

Vocals, bass, keys, guitar, drums by: Laurie Larson

A star long gone, sheds its outer layers

A star and its song spreads throughout the cosmos

Light and energy, expanding to you

Expanding to you

Shine above me, shine above me

Wondrous beauty has her way, united from this day

with this ring, shine above me, shine

A cloud of colors, waves of joy

A star and its song steals the night away

A celestial wedding, a first dance with Father Time

from here to ever after with this Ring Nebula

With this Ring Nebula

EAST OF MY HEART

Words and Music by: Laurie Larson

Vocals, bass, keys, guitar, drums by: Laurie Larson

Minutes fly by, but hours never start

I'll give it one more try somewhere east of my heart

A lone feather, sits on dashboard

Reminds me, I'll see you soon

It's a feeling, can't be ignored as gaze into the full moon

Somewhere, somewhere, oh somewhere, I'll find you

East of heart

A small ripple spreads out, reminds me

Change is here

Even if I don't know

What it's all about, time

Will make clear, somewhere, somewhere

East of my heart

STILL HAVEN'T FOUND THE TREASURE

Words and Music by: Laurie Larson

Vocals, bass, keys, guitar, drums by: Laurie Larson

I looked for you, you looked for me

It's a search now, 20 years on, chasing that setting sun

Digging deeper, but you still haven't found the treasure.

It seemed to be just on the surface, but the landscape changed.

Familiar landmarks faded from view, and you

still haven't found the treasure. I'm lost, I'm so lost

in an orchestrated thicket. You must have caused this, and I just can't hear it.

When you finally stop the chase, stop the chase.

The treasure has found you, the treasure has found you.

KASHMIR

Words and Music by: Jimmy Page, Robert Plant & John Bonham

Lead Guitar: Johnny Echols

Vocals, bass, keys, drums: Laurie Larson

Oh, let the sun beat down upon my face
With stars to fill my dream
I am a traveler of both time and space
To be where I have been
To sit with elders of a gentle race
This world has seldom seen
Talk of days for which they sit and wait
All will be revealed

Talk and song from tongues of lilting grace
Whose sounds caress my ear
And not a word I heard could I relate
The story was quite clear

Oh, oh
Oh, oh

Ooh, oh, baby, I've been flying
No, yeah, mama, there ain't no denying
Oh, ooh, yeah, I've been flying
Mama, mama, ain't no denying, no denying

Oh, all I see turns to brown
As the sun burns the ground
And my eyes fill with sand
As I scan this wasted land
Trying to find, trying to find where I've been

Oh, pilot of the storm who leaves no trace
Like thoughts inside a dream
Here's the path that led me to that place
Yellow desert stream
My Shangri-La beneath the summer moon
I will return again
Sure as the dust that floats high in June
When moving through Kashmir

Oh, father of the four winds, fill my sails
Across the sea of years
With no provision but an open face
Along the straits of fear

Oh, oh
Oh, oh, ooh

Oh, when I'm on, when I'm on my way, yeah
When I see, when I see the way you stay, yeah

Oh, yeah-yeah, oh, yeah-yeah, when I'm down, yeah
Oh, yeah-yeah, oh, yeah-yeah, but I'm down, so down
Oh, my baby, oh, my baby, let me take you there
Oh, oh, come on, come on
Oh, let me take you there, let me take you there
Oh, yeah-yeah, oh, yeah-yeah, let me take you there

I WISH I KNEW HOW IT WOULD FEEL TO BE FREE

Words and music by: Billy Taylor

Lead guitar: Johnny Echols

Vocals, bass, drums by: Laurie Larson

I wish I knew how it would feel to be free

I wish I could break all these chains holdin' me

I wish I could say all the things all the things  that I could say

say 'em loud, say 'em clear for the whole round world to hear

I wish I could share all the love that's in my heart

remove all the bars that keep up apart
I wish you could know what it means to be me
Then you'd see and agree that everyone should be free

I wish I could give
All I'm longing to give

I wish I could live

like I'm longing to live

I wish I could do

all the things that I can do

Though I'm way overdue
I'd be starting a new

I wish I could be
Like a bird in the sky
How sweet it would be
If I found I could fly
I'd soar up to the sun
And look down at the sea

I'd sing 'cause I know

how it feels to be free

How it feels, how it feels

to be free

How it feels to be free

How it feels to be free
Yes I'd sing 'cause I'd know

Oh I'd sing 'cause I'd know

How it feels to be free

SHADOW VERSE

Words and music by: Laurie Larson

Vocals, bass, keys, guitar, drums by: Laurie Larson

La, la, la, la, la la la

La, la, la, la, la la la

La, la, la, la, la la laaaa :||

They called me pretentious, they called me pedestrian

They said I used the wrong notes, they said I'd never be a musician

They called me too young, they called me too old

They called me too shy, they called me too bold

Your words cast a long shadow, where do we go

Can we reverse this shadow verse

They called me a heretic, they called me a martyr

They called me a workaholic, they said I should try harder

They called me goody two-shoes, they called me mean

They said what I create, should never be seen

They called me over-qualified, they called me a babe in the woods

They said I was too much, they said I didn't have the goods

Your words cast a long shadow, you should know

They said I was a nerd, they said I wasn't smart

They said what I did wasn't really art

They called me too innocent, they called me a whore

They called me too interesting, they called me a bore

They called me too assertive, they called me a doormat

They called me the worst names, yes, they even called me THAT

They called me too ugly, they called me too hot

They called me everything, everything I'm not

In their shadow verse, they called me everything

Everything but what I am, I'm just me

Rare Skies, multi-talented creative Laurie Larson has written 7 songs.  She’s also covered two of her favorite encores she played at the Whisky a Go Go, a venue she has played over 40 times in her career. Laurie also recorded, mixed and produced the album as well as doing all the album art and photography. The cover is a composite of a photo she took with her telescope of the Eagle Nebula and a photo of two eagles she spotted at Ft. McDowell, Arizona. Her space photography has been published in Astronomy Magazine and several astronomy websites, while her music-related photography has been featured in a documentary about the progressive rock band Kansas, and inside various artist autobiographies.
